PIER Public Lecture Series 2020-21: Misogyny, Gender and Hate Crime: Assessing the impact

Events — Talk MS Teams Live Webinar
23 February 2022, 17:30

This lecture focuses on the experiences of police, victims and members of the public in response to various police forces' policy change to make ‘misogyny’ or ‘gender’ a recognisable hate crime.

In particular, the talk will draw on the experiences of Nottinghamshire Police, the first force to make the policy change, which has now been in place for 6 years. Evidence from surveys, interviews, focus groups and the latest research findings on gender-based violence in public and domestic spaces will be discussed to assess how the policy change has impacted policing, public confidence and cultural attitudes towards women.
