Events — Exhibition Cambridge Union Chamber, 9A Bridge St, Cambridge CB2 1UB
16 October 2021, 10:00

Red Wrappers: Social and Cultural Interplayis the sixth in the set of seven Art Installations located around Cambridgeshire.  These installations are the practice-based research of Montgomerie House’s PhD in Fashion design at Cambridge School of Art.  Red Wrappers and poetical text are used as nonverbal “Story tellers” of the plight of the Hausa of Northern Nigeria. Within disruption, forced change and displacement due to forced acts of terror, their Identity, livelihoods and life are under threat. Within the Installation there is a juxtaposition of Social and Cultural Ideologies with the inclusion of Scottish Western Isles textiles and mass produced Chinese textiles. Issues of Human Rights and Survival are highlighted with the textiles acting as “material agents for change”

No pre booking required.
