CSCI Research Talk: Rethinking Binge-Watching after COVID-19

Events — Talk Online Event
13 October 2021, 13:00

In this lunchtime research talk, Dr Tanya Horeck and Dr Tina Kendall will consider how discourses and practices of binge-watching have evolved in the context of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Drawing from their respective research on contemporary television, networked media, and the social video sharing platform TikTok, Horeck and Kendall will consider how bingeing has been re-imagined during the global lockdowns as a form of self-care, an expression of social solidarity, and as a public health measure. Dr Mareike Jenner, editor of the forthcoming collection, Binge-watching and Contemporary Television Studies will be chairing and introducing the event. The talk emerges out of a recently published Film Quarterly In Focus on ‘Rethinking Binge-watching in the Age of COVID-19’  https://online.ucpress.edu/fq/issue/75/1
