Time Stands Still (Megáll az idő), directed by Péter Gothár in 1982, deals with the uncertain lives of young Hungarians in the early 1960s, overshadowed by the failed revolution of 1956 and newly attracted to American rock-and-roll. It won the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1982 and went on to become something of a cult film for many Hungarians. ‘Between the pain of the past and the fear of the future, time stands still.’
