On the last night of April, we assembled at d'Arry's restaurant on King Street to share new poems and stories inspired by cocktails. There were a mixture of current ARU students and alumni, along with local writers and guests. Reading for the first time at Future Karaoke were Jonathan Kay, Harriet Truscott and Rosa Eatherton. Clare Pollard also contributed a poem in absentia, read on the night by Alice Willitts. The list of cocktails that inspired the pieces included the Boulevardier, the Bramble, the Bee's Knees, the Pink Squirrel and the Japanese Slipper.

This was the 11th Future Karaoke event, and the second to be hosted at d'Arry's after last year's cheese-and-wine-themed evening. As before, we were able to put out some free jugs of drink on the tables for readers and guests to enjoy. I was a particular fan of the French 75!
Thanks are owed to Jack at d'Arry's, and to Dan and Freya for organising. If you're a writer interested in reading at a Future Karaoke event, or just want to attend and be kept abreast of this and other events series, email jon.stone@aru.ac.uk and ask to be added to either/both the performer and the Cambridge Writing Centre mailing list.
