Shadows Within

I am an illustrator from China with a bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication Design. My work focuses on visual storytelling to express diverse themes.

This project is a picture book set in a dreamworld, exploring the themes of childhood fears and personal growth. The main character, a child, enters a strange dream during their first night sleeping alone. In the dream, they shrink and face various frightening situations, such as being chased, falling into water, and encountering giant insects. As the dream unfolds, the character moves from avoidance to gradually confronting and overcoming these fears.

The art style contrasts the real world, which is in warm tones, with the dreamworld, where I used more vivid and surreal colors to create a fantastical atmosphere. This project comes from my own reflections on childhood fears and how they shaped my emotions and behaviors. I wanted to explore how these fears form and how overcoming them can lead to growth, using a dream as a setting to tell that story.
