I am an aspiring game designer with a background in computer science. Over my degree course I have specialized into technical art and mechanics, and I am interested in pursuing a career in the industry creating immersive worlds and environments.
I most enjoy creating systems and modular skyboxes that can be changed at the user’s whim with unreal engine and their visual scripting language.
During my 3rd year, I began experimenting with particle systems and HDR photos for skyboxes. As such, I decided to create a simulation of a small galaxy, as well as creating star systems purely out of particle systems.
This project took around eight weeks to complete, with the bulk of the work being scripting the modular skybox which allows the user to change a variety of parameters, such as the nebula intensity, star intensity, RGB ratios and more. I also spent time first experimenting with the particle systems to gauge how i can simulate vibrant galaxies and rotational effects such as vortexes and gravity on a large scale.
