Voodoo Through Fashion – A poster designed for a museum exhibition showcasing fashion worn by ‘Voodoo Ghosts’ at festivals.

Hi, my name is Harriet. I'm an Illustrator from Suffolk, now based in Norwich. Studying graphics and photography prior to my degree has hugely influenced the approach I have taken and techniques I have adopted in my illustrative practice.

I have found the work I enjoy creating the most is through using mixed media; it enables me to express myself in a playful style and experiment with colour. I'm passionate about film photography and find incorporating it as references for my illustrations exciting and more personal.

A lot of my work features collage, bold colours and shapes with the added elements of texture and pattern. I like to embrace the imperfections when using these techniques as they add to the individuality and depth of each illustration.

I have incorporated this method of working into my final major project with illustrations focused on the marketing and advertising side of the industry. These have ranged from a travel brochure, recipe cards and cocktail can packaging. I still like to employ traditional forms of illustration such as pencil and gouache with both featuring prominently in my research stage of projects.

I am passionate about typography and enjoy using it in conjunction with my illustrations. This has led to a focus on poster design throughout my whole degree. I would like to explore this path further in the future.

Fig and Goats Cheese Salad – A recipe card which includes the method, illustrated ingredients and an image of the final dish. Dutch Cuisine – A poster depicting a variety of Dutch food and drink. This piece is from a page in an Amsterdam travel brochure I made. Diving – A short, stop-motion animation using collage. It shows a woman doing a flip and diving into water. Cocktail Cans – Product packaging for a set of 5 cocktail cans. The drinks included are: Cosmopolitan, Pina Colada, Mojito, Negroni and Espresso Martini. Bag of Oranges – A piece inspired the poem "The Orange" by Wendy Cope. Artwork that could be used in an anthology alongside the poem. Mixtape Madness – An animation designed for a radio mixtape introduction, based on the theme of fish. The artwork is made up of around 130 paintings. Arethusa – A set of sequential prints using aquatint to tell the story of Arethusa. The 8 prints are displayed on one page to present the story as a whole.
