My work explores old aesthetics in a mixed media format. My base material that I use is spray paint which I use for backgrounds and sprayed stencils.
Most of my backgrounds are made up of patterns in which I often spray paint over lace. This technique is overlapped with textiles, text and layered stencils of people.
I explore subjects such as feminism, affirmation and mental health. My inspiration comes from old magazines from the 1950’s-1990’s.
My work is organised in a posterised way which combines collage and painting techniques.
The context of my work is about idolisation and creating a dream world. My bears relate to childhood and overcoming experiences. I create stencils of glammed up women to show the dream of acceptance and confidence of being a woman.
Creating this work inspires me to gain confidence and overcome past experiences. I use a lot of text in my work that acts as stories and affirmations, inviting the audience into a feeling of that dream.
