I am a BA (Hons) Computer Games Art student, and an aspiring Realtime Artist, specialising in stylised environments.
After studying traditional fine arts in Canterbury, I transitioned over to 3D and moved to Cambridge in order to expand my skill set and explore my career options as an artist.
I specialise in creating stylised environments in Unreal Engine 5. I really enjoy exploring new things and learning new techniques.
Whilst my work is very technically oriented, utilising a range of methods, I try to hold true to my roots, creating works that tell their own story.
My final project is based upon a VisDev Illustration by Hue Teo, entitled The Great Sword.
I found this piece very striking when I first saw it, and I thought it would be an awesome challenge to try and recreate it.
The total development time for this was 12 weeks. The goal for this project was to explore implementations of Unreal’s material layering systems using RGBA masking. I also explored other things such as z-up masking and using RVT’s to blend meshes into the landscape. These systems work in conjunction with tileable textures generated utilising Substance Designer.
While it was a big challenge, I was able to complete the majority of what I wanted to from this piece of work. There’s still more I plan to polish, replace and add onto in the future, but overall, I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished, and I’m excited to see what other projects lie ahead for me in the future.
