Merry Wylder

Pages from a graphic novel showing a goblin-like creature talking to a hen and a rat

A double page spread of a graphic novel I am writing, featuring a fantasy quest.

I’m Merry, and I love creating whimsical illustrations full of life. Traditional ways of working are very important to me, on any given day you can find me with my pots of inks, watercolours and my trusty dip pen. First stop ghouls and goblins, next stop fairies and princesses.

My major project was to create four double page spreads and book cover based on my own graphic novel. I was set on using inks and watercolours, this way of working also led me to extend my digital editing skills.

Cover of graphic novel "Rolf and the Prince's Talisman" featuring illustration of a goblin-like creature lpaying a wind instrument next to rat reading map in a forest scene with a chicken on the back cover
Illustration of a cottage with smoking chimney next to a huge tree
Monochrome illustration of a baby wrapped in patterned cloth
Illustration of a yellow trumpet
Blue monotone map of a fictional island chain with the title "The Southern Isles"
The cover wrap-around for my graphic novel project. An illustration for Angela Carter’s ‘Erl King’ adaptation, using A3 paper, watercolour and inks. A book illustration for ‘The Princess Bride’, using Turkish fabric patterns and medieval borders to show Fezzik as a baby. A double page spread for a childrens book based on my experience of growing up in different brass band circles. A map originally drawn as endpapers for my graphic novel, drawn in the style of antique naval maps.
