Design for a cafe with external tiered seating using orange and yellow glass

An overall view of the architectural design in isometric. To demonstrate my understanding in architecture and my way to adapt with the existing site.

I'm Pak Quan Chan, a 3rd-year Interior Design Student Rep at the Cambridge School of Art. I am an international student from Malaysia, North Borneo. I have always been passionate about expressing myself and constantly learning and understanding people's perspectives to further assist my work as a designer. My design style has mostly worked on minimalistic and contemporary design, with the backbone supported by cultural preservation of the space, and my love for working closely with architecture. Outside of my design times, I dance, choreograph, freestyle, and am consistent in taking care of myself in the gym and also my lifestyle.

My Major Project that I worked on was the Cambridge Museum of Technology.

I worked on half of the section in the "Boiler Room" near the café. The style that I applied in this design is minimalism, contemporary and brutalism. Keep everything toned down into a blank canvas that creates contrast to the existing objects and makes them the main attraction.

The concept is to preserve the history of the museum, like the furnaces and the structure of the building, with an exhibition space on the 1st floor. I chose orange as my main colour, which creates an accent and a brand colour that gives the museum a feel of industrial look, to attract visitors using orange to create philosophical visuals and to complement the weather in the UK.

Additionally, I expanded my design space by reconstructing the café, with a similar style but making it an architectural landscape, allowing views that overlook the infrastructure and the river.

In the final design, I demonstrate that visitors can experience learning about the museum and also have an exhibition that allows for newer interaction in the space. With the café, it turns my design into a leisure space that everyone can enjoy.
