Acrylic patterns and a pair of blue hands on canvas

‘Pop-up’ (2026), 35.6cm x 45.7cm. Acrylic on canvas, 3mm clear acrylic, cardboard

I’m Poppy, a mixed/multi-media artist based in Suffolk.

My practice is centered around the combination of traditional and digital forms. The experience of being human is questioned and our relation to technology, both in the established present and fantasied future. From this starting point, I am also curious about exploring the social impact of technology, from the analog through to the internet.

Transformation is a significant theme in my work, using pixelation to reframe the discourse surrounding abstraction as the visual action of mutating together assumed opposites. References for these pieces recall the photographic media we use to capture of our own fragmentary moments of life, and the feelings of nostalgia and memory we project into the digital realm. My process begins with Photoshop, before constructing the work as hybrid mixed-media paintings which occupy real space. When displayed, the work’s translucent materials start to warp its environment, intersecting with our own reality and disrupting it.
