An image of 9 colourful tiles

My work focuses on colour in relation to its surroundings. We do not see one colour alone without thinking about the necessary others that give it context. A navy blue holds its significance through a tonal scale of light to dark that it is situated within, whereas an orange finds its significance through vibrancy.

In reflecting on colour and its role within the creation of ‘art’, I have used a combination of palettes that have become part of the world around me.

Alan Charlton and Brice Marden are two key artists who have influenced my work, through their focus on colour placement and the power of repetition. The nine canvases exhibited are the combination of three individual sets of works: ‘Colour Series’, ‘Light Series’ and the ‘Season Series’.
