My name is Lisa-Marie Soulier, I am a French-Quebecer, Lesbian film producer based in the UK. Graduated from Anglia Ruskin University with a BA (Hons) in Film Production, I have been, in the past three years, specialising in fiction and documentary, focused on women’s and Queer stories.
I have built my portfolio with projects commissioned by companies, such as Shakespeare’s Globe and Imperial War Museum, and other commissioned work, such as music videos and adverts. I have worked with various actors and budgets, which has allowed me to expand my skillset and adapt to many different productions. Director Claudia Vogt graduated from the same course, and we have worked alongside each other for three years now, always finding ways to tell untold stories.
During my last year at ARU, I have produced a documentary, Saturday Night Butch, focused on the importance of Lesbian nightclubs and the celebration of masculine presenting Lesbian. As a Lesbian myself, I find that there aren’t enough stories about our community that aim to recognize the positive impact and importance of Butches.
These past years at Anglia Ruskin University have helped me developed filmmaking skills, which will follow and help me in my filmmaking career.
My graduate film, Saturday Night Butch, explores the positive impacts of Lesbian nightclubs through five Queer women from different generations. The filmmakers, travelled across the UK to find and understand community, visiting nightclubs to barbershops. Bringing Lesbians together has brought a new and long overdue appreciation for masculine presenting Lesbians. The community’s involvement has brought a unique perspective to Lesbian documentary.
